There is one week of the year when we celebrate small business on a national scale, and this year, it falls under the week of May 15-21 (this week). This nation-wide celebration is a recognition of the country’s top small businesses and small business owners for their contributions to spurring economic recovery and growth, driving innovation, creating new jobs, and keeping alive the idea of the American Dream.
In other words, this is the time of year when we celebrate small businesses for all the big things they do. In fact, according to the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA), with approximately 27.2 million small businesses in America, small businesses account for 60-80% of new jobs. In addition, more than half of Americans either own or work for a small business. And of course, all businesses start out small (GotPrint included), which is what makes this celebration so important for all businesses, big or small.
This week, the SBA will hold a series of events in Washington, D.C. from May 18th to the 20th. More than 100 small business owners will participate in receptions and panel forums, as well as accept awards – the most coveted award to be the National Small Business Person of the Year. If you can’t make it to the events, make sure to watch the live webcast.
And since many of our customers are small business owners themselves, we’ll be offering resources for small businesses on our social media sites this week. So be sure to drop by and tell us how you plan to celebrate!
